Your First Visit
Your first visit with us will take approximately 90 minutes. Before the initial exam, the doctor will ask you about your medical history. On your medical history form, be sure to provide complete, up-to-date information on your health. It is important to note any allergies, hospitalizations or surgeries, or illnesses. Also tell the doctor the names, doses, and frequency of any medications you are taking — whether prescription or over-the-counter products — and the name of your physician. This information will help the doctor to select the safest and most effective method of treatment for you. The doctor will then perform a thorough exam which includes checking the muscles of your neck and face, your gums, teeth, TMJ, and an oral cancer screening. The oral cancer screening includes a new technology called VELscope Vx. It is an early detection tool which is used in addition to visual/manual screening methods. Next a set of x-rays will be taken that will allow the doctor to view any tooth decay, the structure of the jaw, the position of any teeth that have not yet erupted, malformed roots, and any abnormalities. Finally we take a series of photographs of your teeth which aids the doctor in developing the best possible treatment plan for your needs.
Dental Anxiety
It is important to us that our patients enjoy a comfortable dental experience. We can provide you with many items from which to choose to ensure that your visit is as relaxed as possible. For example, we have portable DVD players with virtual reality movie glasses and warm blankets to help you feel more at ease. If needed, we can also provide you with medications to help you relax.
Consultation
After the doctor has completed your comprehensive exam and evaluated your photographs and x-rays, the Doctor may ask you to come in to talk about your treatment plan in detail. At this appointment the Doctor will recommend the best treatment for you to achieve ideal dental health. Our front office staff can answer any financial questions and will be happy to help you schedule your appointments so that you may complete your treatment in a timely manner.
